Augmented Reality has the potential to revolutionize mobile shopping bringing products to life in front of you through 3D models that you can resize, analyze from any angle and even place in the environment around you.
The new smartphone generation will fully support augmented reality and this will allow for a further convergence between 3D graphics and consumers.
Through the smartphone camera you will be able to frame real environments in which 3D objects will magically adapt.
Developers can develop augmented reality apps and integrate three important features necessary in order to perfectly integrate digital objects in the camera image:
- Environment identification: it recognizes the size of real objects and sends information to the app usable on plane surfaces such as floors or tables.
- Movement tracking: it recognizes smartphone movements and ensure that digital objects stay where they are.
- Light assessment: without shadow projection digital insertions will act as foreign bodies. Therefore information about light are sent and this way shadows can be cast.
Currently the only limit is that there still are not automated processes for 3D render generation, therefore AR will be a great opportunity for 3D agencies until they find a way to do it.
You can view a rough and historical example of AR made back in 2011 via this link (click here). Nowadays tools are far more advanced and results are far more realistic.
